Pear and Star Anise Mulled Wine with Dried Pear Slices

Glass of warm spiced pear with a dried pear slice and cinnamon

This is the lighter one of our Christmas drinks – white wine or perry warmed with pear, cinnamon and a little star anise. It's lovely for anyone who finds mulled red wine a bit heavy.

Our pear slices are cut lengthways so they look beautiful in the glass, and they keep for 12 months in the cupboard.

Pear and star anise for a crowd (about 15 glasses)

You'll need

  • 1 Nim's Pear Mulled Wine Kit – Party Size (15 pear slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves and red currants or cranberries)
  • 3 bottles of dry white wine, or 2 litres of perry (pear cider)
  • 3 star anise
  • 3–4 tablespoons of honey, to taste
  • 50ml brandy or elderflower liqueur (optional)

Method

  1. Pour the wine into a large pan and add the cinnamon, cloves, berries, star anise and about half the pear slices.
  2. Stir in the honey and warm gently for 15–20 minutes. Don't let it boil.
  3. Taste, add more honey if you like, and stir in the brandy just before serving.
  4. Pour into glasses and float a pear slice from the pack in each one.

Alcohol-free version

Use pressed pear or apple juice instead of the wine and leave out the honey. Same method, same pretty glass.

Spice it up

Our 50-slice pear pot comes with a free jar of Christmas Spice Dust – a little sprinkled over the pear slice in each glass finishes it off nicely.
