Dark red Negroni cocktail garnished with a dried orange slice — Nim's ...naturally

The Negroni is one of the great cocktails. Equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth — bitter, complex, and deeply satisfying. It's also a drink that rewards a great garnish.

Here's how to garnish a Negroni, from the classic approach to something a little more creative.

The classic Negroni garnish: orange

Traditionally, a Negroni is garnished with a twist of orange peel — expressed over the glass to release the oils, then dropped in or balanced on the rim. The orange oils cut through the bitterness of the Campari and add a bright citrus note that ties the whole drink together.

With dried garnishes, you get that same orange character — plus the added benefit of the slice rehydrating slowly in the glass, releasing flavour as you drink. Nim's Dried Orange Slices are the natural starting point.

Blood orange: the upgrade

If you want to take the classic Negroni garnish up a level, reach for Dried Blood Orange Slices. The deep crimson colour looks extraordinary against the Negroni's rich amber, and the complex, slightly floral bitterness of blood orange is a natural match for Campari.

This is the garnish that makes people ask questions.

Grapefruit: for a more bitter finish

Dried Grapefruit Slices work beautifully in a Negroni if you want to lean into the bitter notes rather than soften them. The bittersweet character of grapefruit amplifies the Campari and adds a sophisticated edge.

Kumquat: for something unexpected

For a Negroni variation — or a White Negroni — Dried Kumquat Slices bring an intense sweet-tart citrus burst that rehydrates slowly in the glass. Unusual, memorable, and genuinely delicious.

How to serve

Drop the garnish directly into the glass over ice before or after pouring. With a stirred Negroni served in a rocks glass, a single dried slice sitting on the ice looks clean and intentional. For a Negroni served up, balance the slice on the rim.

No prep. No mess. No waste.

Why dried garnishes work so well in a Negroni

The Negroni is a strong, spirit-forward drink — it can handle a garnish with real character. Dried citrus slices rehydrate slowly in the glass, releasing flavour gradually rather than all at once. By the time you finish the drink, the garnish has become part of it.
